  2. Absolutely lovely. Do you set the bottom of the tank level to the bottom frame rail, or is it all by eye when its on its wheels. Just wondering whether I can do my tank and subframe before I have the wheels sorted.Cheers

  3. Hi, i set the rear sub frame to same level as the frame underneath the engine, but you must bring the top rail of the rear frame up about an inch where it meets the main frame, you need the bottom of the tank to be approximately 10mm from the top of the rear frame rail.

  4. And yes i usually do this without the wheels attached but you have the bike level on the stand. Hope this helps.

  5. Hi Backtracker, wondergfull bikes you 're making!
would like to use an SLR 650, is this a possibility?
    Are the frames identical?
    Regards, and enjoy the weekend!

    1. Thanks for the kind words, you can use an slr650 but the rear frame section is a single box section and would therefore involve a different approach.
      good luck with your build.

    Cheers.

  11. Hi Andrew,
Did you have to relocate the petcock on the CG125 tank? I just purchased a new one on eBay from Hong Kong, and the petcock is too far forward. If so, did you also need to switch to a larger petcock for faster fuel delivery? The CG125 petcock is tiny compared to the NX650. Thanks for the inspiration! Hope to be ripping up the streets of New York City on my NX/scrambler by spring!

    1. Hi there, I haven't had to move the tap on any of the bikes, it is a close fit to the left side of the frame but you should be ok. Good luck with your build.

    1. I can see the benefit of a two seater but the longer seat and additional footpegs would alter the overall look.
I have seen similar customs with room for a pillion but personally prefer the single look.

  15. Another bit of advice if you don't mind… With the CRF250 cans, which look beautiful by the way!, how involved is it to fabricate the connection pipes from the stock headers? Would you consider selling a connection pipe set? However, I don't plan to cut my frame, so the angle will be a little different. And just curious, are they too loud for city use?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I try to keep things simple ands the best way to connect the cans to the header pipes is to use the pipes from each , cut them and the nx pipes will slide inside the crf pipes, leave them quite long and you can then adjust accordingly. By using both crf and nx pipes at the connectors you will have a very neat and gas tight seal.
And yes they are loud 😊

  17. hi backtracker. at this time, I started with my project to customize a NX650. I like the cover for the frame triangle you used. Wherefrom do you get them?

  18. Hi Andrew,
I'still got the wheels build. Now I'm dealing with the seat. At all of your bikes you used pretty simillar seat/tail combination. Did you build them by your self or could you tell me where to buy?
    Regards.
    Georg
